Julie Nagel calls Anticipatory Set and Closure the two bookends of a lesson.  This is certainly supported by research that says we are most likely to remember what we hear at the beginning of a lesson and at the end of a lesson.

Closure enables the mind to summarize the learning at the end of a lesson.
