Introduction

Welcome to the Constellation Connection webquest. One of the best ways for a student to learn is by teaching the concept.  The students will design a PowerPoint which will be designed to teach kindergarten through second grade students about constellations.  After they have created the PowerPoint, they will then present it to children at a local elementary school.


Curriculum Aim

The curriculum web is designed to help middle school students understand what a constellation is, the stars which of which it is composed, any special features, and the Greek mythology behind it name. 


Learners

This webquest is designed for seventh grade students in Arizona in a regular education science class.


Objectives

  1. Students will be able to identify constellations.

  2. Students will recognize patterns in constellations.

  3. Students will be able to understand the difference between a circumpolar constellation and a seasonal constellation.

  4. Students will read and interpret Greek mythology as it relates to constellations.


Seventh Grade Arizona Standards Met Using This WebQuest

  1. Understand the relationships of the Earth and other objects in the solar system.

  2. Identify the following major constellations visible (seasonally) from the Northern Hemisphere: Orion, Ursa Major (Great Bear), Cygnus,  Scorpius, Cassiopeia.

  3. Determine the intended audience of a writing piece.

  4. Use time management strategies, when appropriate, to produce a writing product within a set time period.

  5. Prepare writing in a format (e.g., oral presentation, manuscript, multimedia) appropriate to audience and purpose.

  6. Use correct writing conventions.

  7. Write a summary of information from sources

  8. Write an informational report
