Mission 3: In the Event of a Volcano

Create a brochure for the National Geologic Service for residents of Washington and Oregon on the dangers of volcanoes

Directions:

The National Geologic Service has hired your team to design a brochure, which can be distributed to the residents of Washington & Oregon.  The NGS is concerned that the residents are becoming too complacent since the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.  In your brochure, list the major active volcanoes in this region, the probability of eruption, and any hazards associated with these volcanoes.  Additionally, list what residents should do in the event of an eruption.

In order to create this brochure, you will have to conduct research.  When you gather data, you must remember to cite any information you use. This includes pictures and graphs. On the back of the brochure, there is a space for you to list all of the web sites you used. Please put it in MLA format.  If you are not sure how to put it in MLA format, go to Citation Machine for a great program that will help you cite sources in MLA style.

Click on the resources tab at the top of the page to begin your research of the volcanoes of the Northwest.

Use the following template to help you get started on the volcano safety brochure.
